Microsoft SQL Server CALs - Description

What are Microsoft SQL Server CALs?

SQL Server CALs (Client Access Licenses) are licenses that grant the right for client devices or users to access and use Microsoft SQL Server. CALs are required in addition to the server license for each client device or user directly or indirectly accessing the SQL Server software. These CALs regulate and manage client access to the services and functionalities provided by SQL Server. By obtaining the appropriate number of CALs, organizations ensure compliance with licensing requirements while enabling authorized users to connect to and utilize the features and resources of SQL Server. CALs offer businesses the flexibility to scale their client access as needed, accommodating a varying number of users or devices accessing SQL Server.

We have several versions of this database platform available for small, midsize, and large businesses. You’ll find SQL Server 2019, SQL Server 2017 and SQL Server 2016 Standard Edition in both CAL and Core formats plus Enterprise options for larger companies. Our SQL Server Licensing Guide has more information on each license model. You can also read a SQL Server 2016 review or reports on other products from actual users. We deliver all license keys within 30 minutes during business hours and include knowledgeable installation support with each purchase to help you quickly get your new database management system up and running.

If you have any questions on how SQL Server works or which license(s) you should use for your system, contact one of our US-based Microsoft licensing engineers via email, phone, or chat.
